Cloud boost for sparkling drinks firm

July 6 2011

A CARBONATED drinks firm which sells its range of popular natural products across the country has seen its business transformed by Cloud computing technology.

Owners of Healthy Thirst Drinks, which supplies to Tesco, Morrisons, Booths and National Trust cafes, installed the innovative computer software following a company restructure earlier this year.

Its three directors needed an alternative to traditional IT after deciding to run the business from their homes in North Yorkshire and the North East – more than 60 miles apart.

Their business advisers, Clive Owen & Co LLP, developed the Cloud computing technology for the firm, tailoring it to its needs which meant bosses could access their system from anywhere in the country at the same time.

Sheila Woodall, a director of Healthy Thirst Drinks who is based in Sedgefield, County Durham, said:

The Cloud system has been a brilliant solution for us. It's transformed the way we work. We're based from south of York to Sedgefield and this technology is excellent for keeping on top of the business, particularly the finance side.
We can have quality of life and run our business remotely. We're looking to grow Healthy Thirst Drinks and Cloud technology is helping us do just that.

The drinks company specialises in the manufacture of carbonated natural products using fruit, herbs and botanical ingredients. It produces around a million bottles of its sparkling favourites a year, including Cloudy Lemonade, Pink Ginger and Orchard Cola.

Lee Huck, Clive Owen & Co LLP's information technology director, said:

It's amazing to see how simple software such as Cloud has made a huge difference to Healthy Thirst Drinks. It's really transformed the way the directors work.
The technology is great for anyone who has multiple sites so they can all access the system at the same time but from different offices. Other advantages to Cloud are that the server is hosted, so in the event of a fire all your files are safe. You also don't have heavy costs associated with licence compliance which comes with traditional IT and you can pay as a monthly service. Traditional IT costs can be really prohibitive if you're a small business.
